Great piece! This is a familiar story and one I can relate to.
When I first moved to Las Vegas almost 4years ago, I worked for Red Carpet VIP and was out partying, drinking and entertaining clients while mingling and meeting many strangers. "Building my database" I called it... Drinking made it all that much easier and I have to admit all that partying did get me off to a great start and left my familiar face and name around town as I met people/potential clients from around the world. Then came my time, things started to get out of hand and affect my "daytime" performance...mostly that consisted of nothing but sleep!
Early 2008 I realized something needed to change! I launched my own PR, Events & Marketing Company, Industry PM, and made a vow to work hard and focus on a career, not getting drunk & partying. Now for an entire year I have not cold turkey cut out drinking, but I never get drunk and I only have 0-2 drinks total if I'm out. More of a social drink or wine because I enjoy my glass. During the last year I have grown much more professional and have made even more significant contacts!
Most importantly, I enjoy my days and feel so much healthier! Bye-bye lousy hangovers!!
