Someone elses property and freedom is not what was battled, it was all of our properties and all of our freedoms. You see....we do own our properties and unfortunately we don't have a million to invest to upgrade our places. What we do have though is determination, hard work, dreams and what little we have scaped ,borrowed, and saved in our lifetime to create something not for us but for this City we love. If we don't protect it, who will? It's the small business owners who have built and sustained this great country. It is off our backs that people who have a million to spend want to come into our neighborhoods now that we have created value in the realestate around us. Before there was us........no one even wanted to drive through our neighborhood let alone walk through it. Perhaps the Econo Lodge wouldn't of been such an appealing investment were it not for the up and coming neighborhood the we all struggled to build. I agree with our mayors comment...no one was a winner here.......but I would add ,no one was a looser here either. He still has his motel and we still have our arts district but what we haved added to both is the willingness of neighbors caring enough to come together to agree to disagree and out of that will come a community that will come to a resolution that will work for all. This is how neighborshoods gain and retain value, by neighbors caring enough to go to city council meetings and protecting what they have worked for and what their leaders have promiced them. Last but not least, before you cast judgement on what should be up for dispute....think about what you would fight for to put in or keep out of your own backyard. I hope you will visit the arts & antique district and stay or reccomend to a visitor to stay at the econo lodge so they can walk to our neat little district of shops. maybe then you'll share our passion.
