This critic has obviously not spent much time around adolescent girls, as it does not take much to make them giggle, especially if it was at a film adaptation of their favorite book (and in any case, they were probably giggling just looking at Pattinson). I don't doubt that it is those moviegoers who will be most pleased with thsi film, regardless of its larger reception, but I would have surmised that in any case given the high level of anticipation. The other objective of this critic's review seemed to be to criticize Catherine Hardwicke and her previous films, and he does a transparent job of hiding his dislike for this adaptation despite the fact that Hardwicke was working with a very low budget. In any case, this was a movie adapted from a book written for an audience of young, female adults. Perhaps if the reviewer had kept that in mind, and had done his homework on the behavior and reactions of teenage girls (before he based his review entirely off of this, apparently) then his conclusions about the film and books would have been more accurate.
