Saudades de Rock
Thu, Aug 21, 2008 (midnight)
Singer Gary Cherone sounds way more like Sammy Hagar than he used to—an influence from his time fronting Van Halen, perhaps?—but otherwise it’s business as usual for hard rockers Extreme on Saudades de Rock. Their first album since reuniting in 2004 features steel-caliber riffs and gang harmonies—even if the aptly named “Comfortably Dumb” comes from the Audioslave school of torch-throwing AOR.
The bottom line: ***
