Perla’s Pumpkin Pie

Margarita, $11, Hawaiian Tropic Zone, Miracle Mile Shops

Image

Trick or treat! Okay, just practicing. October gets me in the mood for fall, fall gets me in the mood for Halloween, and Halloween gets me in the mood for inappropriately orange drinks and shots called Boo-Berry and such. Here, the versatile harvest-time veggie does double duty, proving that sweet or savory, it is the king of squash. HTZ puts a south-of-the-border twist on boring holiday desserts thanks to Cazadores’ Anejo tequila. It’s fermented to Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 and aged at least one year in new, small American White Oak casks, which imparts those sweet vanilla and caramel notes—the casks, not the Mozart.

Ingredients & Method

1.5 oz. Cazadores Anejo tequila

1 oz. Hiram Walker pumpkin spice liqueur

1 oz. orange juice

0.75 oz. simple syrup

Combine, shake, pour over ice and top with two dashes of pumpkin pie spice. Squeeze a lemon wedge and drop it in.
