This S.F. neo-soul outfit sounds so ’70s, you can almost smell the incense and pot wafting through the air when this CD comes on. But outside of THC memories and a fondness for leather vests, Magnificent Fiend quickly degenerates from a catchy soul experience to nothing more than a straight-up repetitive ride through ’70s musical hell. But hey, wasn’t that the same story with ’70s soul itself, once disco took over?
