Sipping into something comfortable
Thu, Sep 18, 2008 (midnight)
He’s here, like, always. Yet Kevin Downey Jr. brings something new to the table—or rather, to the bar top—every time. The drinking man’s comic may have made all the requisite big-radio stops, appeared on Comedy Central and found himself at the mercy of the Queer Eye for the Straight Guy quintet, but the most extravagant thing about him is still his classic-vintage style. His showmanship is meticulously honed, the singsongy delivery and demeanor refreshingly original. Even his drink-hoisting catchphrase (“Siiiip!”) is perfectly suited for the Strip. In other words, Downey may not actually live here, but he’s an honorary member of the Vegas entertainment elite all the same.
Kevin Downey at The Comedy Stop September 22-28, 8 and 10:30 p.m., $22. The Comedy Stop at the Tropicana, 739-2714.
