Just because something says “alternative,” don’t expect to see a crowd swaddled in flannel. Alternative Tuesdays, which kicked off this month in the House of Blues Courtyard, will be an “open format” show. “It’s really a mixed bag. We’re going to open the doors to original bands, cover bands ... acoustic, electric ... almost any genre,” says host Michael Soli. “That’s why we call it Alternative Tuesdays—not to mean the musical genre ‘alternative’; to mean alternative kinds of entertainment.” ¶ Still, Soli, who also hosts HOB’s ongoing Acoustic Strip series every Thursday, clarifies that Tuesday is not an open-mic night. “It’s for folks who actually perform professionally or semi-professionally,” he says of the new free, all-ages series.
