The gift that keeps on pouring

Ever wonder why people pay real money to give imaginary Facebook gifts like cocktails and presents? Princeton alums Patrick Ledbetter and Adam Ludwig did. And with the classic fusion of Ivy League education and Internet innovation, they created Give Real, a service that allows you to virtually give actual drinks. “We created Give Real as a fun way to celebrate birthdays with friends across the country. But since its launch in December 2008, we’ve seen people send drinks to friends for every occasion,” says Ludwig. Donors have the option of purchasing drink credits on the website, Givereal.com, or via a Facebook application. Lucky recipients then register their own credit card online, and then spend away on any drink (including nonalcoholic ones) at any establishment that takes plastic. When the binge is through, the recipient magically has the gift amount credited back to their account in three to five days. For far-away friends, the 90-cent service fee is a small price to pay for a virtual reunion.

Sunday is the new black

If partying is your religion, there’s no such thing as a day of rest—time to add one more stop to your schedule. Last week, we told you about 360 Sundays at Rok Vegas, and now the N9NE Group is getting in on the seventh-day celebrations. “We have one specific goal,” says the N9NE Group’s Michael Fuller. “Change what is considered a traditional local club night. Local nights in Vegas have become very formulaic. We are going to try to add some spice to the formula and deliver high-quality production and talent that is constantly changing from week to week.”

More

Beginning February 15, the Goodlife kicks off just in time for those trying to forget a deplorable Valentine’s Day the night before. Collaborating with Vegas Alliance, the Goodlife party at Moon (and ultimately expanding to include the Playboy Club) aims to focus on all that is … well … good. Think luxury, comfort and fresh tuneage. According to N9NE Group’s Julie Cane, Moon will feature house music in the main room and local hip-hop DJs in the Satellite Bar (psst—any local hip-hop DJs interested in playing can contact 944-9847 for more info). Once a month, the Goodlife will hold a theme night, such as the Hair Wars or Clash in the past. A world-renowned DJ will also stop by monthly, and Carl Cox is already scheduled on March 8. Plus, all locals receive complimentary admission, and ladies get two free Ketel One cocktails.

Goodbye rehab, hello Vegas?

Has anyone else noticed the somewhat unnerving number of celebrities hosting parties in Vegas seemingly moments after being sprung from rehabilitation centers and/or jail? It seems like only Mischa Barton had the good sense (or a good lawyer?) to cancel her participation in the grand opening of CatHouse on December 29, 2007 after being arrested on a DUI charge. March 1, 2008, wildman Steve-O hosted one final fete at McFadden’s (“The wildest Irish pub on earth”) before entering rehab for drug and alcohol abuse. Last week during AVN, Sin City received a visit from porn star Mary Carey, fresh from VH1’s Celebrity Rehab and reportedly now sans Xanax addiction. And don’t even get us started on the many aged rockers whose bums have graced our VIP booths over the years …

The latest wave of post-intervention star power brings us Shifty Shellshock of Crazytown, who will host the grand opening of Rok Vegas’ new 360 Sundays along with DJ Donald Glaude on February 1. The mohawked wonder—who made an unexpected cameo on the Weekly’s “Hawkspotting” webisode—has had stints on Celebrity Rehab as well as the halfway-house reality show Sober Living, which debuted last week and also stars—wait for it, this is good—Mary Carey! Small world.

Crowning Vegas’ Party Monster

Las Vegans know how to throw a great party. One of our own, promoter/DJ Brett Rubin, proved just that. Earning a spot on E!’s show Party Monsters Cabo, Rubin was hesitant to delve into the world of reality shows, but his decision paid off. He ended up as one of the final two contestants. Rubin showcased his event-planning skills and squared off in the finale against the seemingly immature, star-struck, Jesus-centric Kinsey Schofield to plan a launch party for celeb client Nick Cannon’s new entertainment management company. Big congrats to Rubin for kicking Kinsey’s derriere Vegas-style and winning a $100,000 contract as the celebrity party planner for LG.

"dj" brett rubin is an arrogant coward and a prick.

Nicely put, Chetspet.
in all honesty, anyone who watched the show saw that Kinsey's experience grew during the show & her execution of parties came out on top.
Her party for Nick Cannon in the finale was much better planned than Brett's. The fact of the matter is, the "boys" played dirty, while Kinsey relied on her thought out party to take her to the top.
Its a shame that you people @ Vegas Weekly seem to be giving him props for being a complete a*hole.
PS-I also heard that Tyler sh*t his pants during thetaping of the show.

and when is it ok to bash someone for loving Jesus? thats just plain absurd that you would bring that up. Get over yourself.

That episode clearly showed Brett and his "boys" cheating. So, If I'm planning a party with a large budget, I definitely wanna deal with a cheater who has no trouble lying to my face. I think it's funny if he thinks he has accomplished something with this, besides putting himself in a different tax bracket for a year, what a joke. Now the headaches begin... grab a CPA, dear Brett the DJ....

Oh yeah... to VegasVal's point... I think Brett might have been a little jealous of the way those celebs inter acted with Kinsey. They clearly liked star struck Kinsey better than arrogant DJ Brett.... it really was a joke of a show. Look at the message boards, did anyone really watch it? LOL

NOLAgirl: I wrote the "Party Monster" portion of the Mash-Up this week and I'm 20-something as well...
Kinsey threw a party with a Candy Land theme. The minute she pitched that idea, my friend and I wondered if it was a children's birthday party she was planning. It was also severely annoying how she fawned over celebs and squealed like a little school girl all the time. Perhaps Brett can be seen as arrogant, but he knows how to throw a real party and that's the point of the show.
Vegasval: I didn't bash Kinsey for loving Jesus, it was just unnecessary how often she talked about her faith for this particular type of show. Now if she was planning a niece's baptism, then it'd be fine.

Well, if nothing else, this tiny little article has people talking! Who knew?

Wow. There's lot of anger in here. Sounds like people need a hug. Ah, well. You obviously gave a sh*t enough to respond the comment board again.

I know Brett Rubin personally, and not only is he great at what he does, he is an amazing person. We have to remember that we only see an hour's worth of film from a week's worth of taping. The producers tend to mold things to be shown the way they want you to see them. So, please don't let a "reality show" effect you all THIS much.....

Although I didn't watch the show in question, great article as always Deanna, 'keep ya head up' girl ;-)

Thanks, NikiNerdette. There are so many other things on the Weekly's website and in print worthy of attention, yet this is the most discussed topic today. I find that funny... and a little sad.

you could have said nice job Brett, way to go... without taking nasty immature pot shots at Kinsey... you put out negative, you get negative back.

Deanna f*cking rocks.

This is an aggressive business and it's all about making a lasting impression. If mine involves being young and fun, enthusiastic about the opportunity given to me and grateful for the chance to meet people I admire- and my FAITH... then I am proud of that. God Bless you Deanna.

Honestly, I do not see why it is necessary to tear people down in order to congratulate Brett. Yes, Brett did a good job, but so did Kinsey. You can still be humorous and get your point across without being nasty. This is EXACTLY why I don't listen to Fox news - all of you guys need to get your egos in check!

Ok seriously I love reality tv! It's hilarious that everyone is getting so upset over a tiny little article... oh and by the way before you start bashing people on their writing skills maybe you should check out some of the other articles she wrote?! I watched this show, and to be honest who the HELL cares?? I mean great for Brett but honestly I'm sure Kinsey is still getting called for parties regardless of how religious she is or isn't. Everyone is entitled to thier own opinion and I thought Kinsey's party was sutible for a sweet 16 party but not a party for Nick Cannon....

Uh oh, maybe I shouldn't have said that...let's start bashing on my opinion too!! Muahahahahaha!!!!

Posted by: Kalynn on 1/22/09 at 10:32 p.m. (Suggest removal)

"let's start bashing on my opinion too!!"

Oh yes Kalynn, you two are such victims of adversaries of the 1st amendment!

You ask 'who cares'? Well, I believe we are all responding to someone who cared about the show enough to publish an article about it, while simultaneously mocking someone for their religious faith. That's always classy, isn't it?

"I thought Kinsey's party was sutible for a sweet 16 party but not a party for Nick Cannon...."

It is amusing that you do not approve of the party's theme for Nick Cannon. The reason it is amusing is because Nick Cannon did approve of it. It appears he liked the idea more so than Brett's idea, and I believe it was Brett's all out philosophy to deliver what the client wanted.

It's also weird that Nick Cannon could have a wedding party at an amusement park (i.e. a common place for a child's birthday party), but Kinsey's idea is accused by Deanna and yourself of being too adolescent. Hmm. I guess it's a good thing neither of you are party consultants for him.

"...maybe you should check out some of the other articles she wrote?"

If this article was garbage (in my opinion - wink), what would inspire me to want to read others that she has authored?

I don't feel it's necessary or productive to cut down other people. Being respectful and having integrity is a good thing! Brett won, congrats to him. He deserved to win as much as anyone else. Kinsey, being in the top two is sure something to be proud of, congrats to you too.
Unfortunately all the potty mouths wasn't too impressive at all, not professional either. I don't enjoy hearing all the profanities.
Kinsey, you said "This is an aggressive business and it's all about making a lasting impression. If mine involves being young and fun, enthusiastic about the opportunity given to me and grateful for the chance to meet people I admire- and my FAITH... then I am proud of that." You're right, there's certainly nothing wrong with being young, fun, and enthusiastic. Having faith is a good thing......I love Jesus too.....however, what is unfortunate is your use of verbage like "OMFG" and g*damn ....I'm sure Jesus wasn't smiling to hear you talk like that.....just something to think about. BUT....congrats for making the top two, the party looked like everyone was having a great time. I'm still not sure how they made their decision on the winner but just remember it was a chance of a lifetime and a memory all the contestants will have forever.

Zippy S.T.F.U., no one invited you to the festivities. Who are you? Her grandmother?

The cursing was never around the clients.

And if you're such a big fan of Jesus too, you know it's only him that she needs to deal with.

Unless you think your purpose on his planet is to teach lessons over message boards.

"I don't feel it's necessary or productive to cut down other people."

Followed by:

"I'm sure Jesus wasn't smiling to hear you talk like that.....just something to think about."

Definition of hypocrisy: "The practice of professing beliefs, feelings, or virtues that one does not hold or possess; falseness."

I think it's fitting for you, wouldn't you agree?

El Oh El,

Awww, it appears that when someone can't rebut an argument, they decide to delete it instead. That doesn't make you look pathetic and defeated at all! Keep it up Deanna and the Las Vegas Times.

It was really too easy.
