Red, white and green!

Isn’t it time we gave up those noisy, environmentally unfriendly fireworks, anyway?

Celebrate Independence Day at Springs Preserve, where the Las Vegas Philharmonic will perform its Star Spangled Spectacular this year, after 10 years at Summerlin’s Hills Park. There’ll be a laser light show instead of fireworks with the concert.

The Details

Star Spangled Spectacular
July 4, doors open at 6 p.m., $17.50.
Springs Preserve, 822-7705
Beyond the Weekly
Springs Preserve

The deal is, Summerlin and the city of Las Vegas are negotiating the future of Hills Park, and so the Independence Day celebration has been moved to Springs Preserve, which, frankly, could use the business. The Water District’s environmental attraction has been sucking up funds rather than visitors for the last couple of years, and this popular event is expected to bring in 2,000 visitors at $17.50 apiece.

The Phil will be set up in the outdoor amphitheater; food, beer and wine will be sold; lots of patriotic tunes will be played. It’s sure to be good times for all, even the super-dry surrounding desert and peace-loving animals, which won’t be traumatized by fireworks.

July 4, doors open at 6 p.m., $17.50. Springs Preserve, 822-7705, springspreserve.org.
