The full-on gut-wallop comes with live proximity, but these six home recordings summon up a healthy kinetic blast all the same. Half are rough redos of last year’s The Earthling Sessions songs, and though some studio touches are missed (the keyboard intro to “Dark Obsession”), the less-formal setting suits Caravels’ coarseness just fine (hear the group-sing at the end of “Snake Plissken” for proof). Meanwhile, three new compositions (“Iceland,” “Greenland” and “Meat-Wave”) scale back serpentine side trips for straight-up muscle. Yeah, Caravels just got more intense.
