Yawn shop
Thu, Jul 23, 2009 (midnight)
Proving yet again that no profession cannot be made into a reality show, last week the History Channel premiered Pawn Stars (Sundays, 10 p.m.), a reality show set in the riveting world of Las Vegas pawn shops. It follows the three generations of Harrison family men who run Downtown’s Gold and Silver Pawn Shop as they buy and sell people’s stuff.
The Details
Pawn Stars seems determined to show the lighter, quirkier side of pawning, so there are no desperate families hocking their most prized possessions (at least not yet). Instead, in the first episode we thrill to two guys haggling over the price of a table saw, and the crotchety Harrison patriarch going to the eye doctor. No matter how many fun facts about the value of various antiques the show throws onscreen, it’s about one step from Harrison home movies.
I'VE WATCHED IT EVERY WEEK THAT ITS BEEN ON. I LOVE IT. I HOPE IT HAS A LONG RUN.
