“Chicken Change-Over”
unfry all that chicken
like you never meant it
pull it from the vat
washed of all its fat-
free of consequences
the colonel
turns over in his white suit
the tears collecting in
his glasses
you live your whole life laboring
to put something worthwhile on the table
hoping that will be enough
to bring someone to it
uneat your heart out,
unfry all that chicken
we all make free offers
we fail to live up to.
