Tiny little expression of angry dismay: Headlines dissemble!

Las Vegas Weekly Staff

Thu, Jun 18, 2009 (midnight)

Some of us at the Weekly are raising kids in Las Vegas, and we’ve disputed the common notion that this isn’t a great place to do so. Determined parents can make it work anywhere, right? But some days it seems to be getting harder. With school funding well below the national average and the headlines lately filled with imperiled children, sometimes this Valley doesn’t seem so child-safe. Yet we were reminded, as we drove past an under-construction rec center recently, that headlines—however useful as spurs to action—don’t tell the whole story.
