It appears Wasted Space’s Tuesday-night experiment has ended, or mostly so. The club inside the Hard Rock Hotel, which began hosting live “indie” nights aimed at bringing in locals last year, has informed several booked bands that their services will not be needed, after all. With the occasional exception (The Von Bondies’ June 16 date, for example, is still on), Wasted Space will now sit dark on Tuesdays, along with its already typically dark Mondays.

“They never lost any money on [Tuesday] night, and they wouldn’t have lost money on any of the [upcoming] shows,” says local promoter Mark Hornsby, who booked many of the Tuesday-night gigs. “We spent a year branding that weekday night to where we had it moving like a machine—we had 400 people there last week—so it makes no sense.”

As for rumors Wasted Space will soon cease all live music, Hard Rock Entertainment Director Ned “Tex” Dike is quick to quash those. “We’ll still be doing live music,” he insists. “We’re just going through a change in our programming formula.”
