Cabo Wabo—and Sammy Hagar!—coming to Vegas

Sammy Hagar rocking out at his Cabo Wabo Cantina in Mexico.

One tequila, two tequila, three tequila—oooh! Sammy Hagar! The Red Rocker is bringing Las Vegas its own outpost of his famous Cabo Wabo Cantina complete with, you guessed it, plentiful amounts of Cabo Wabo Tequila.

Located in the Miracle Mile shops at Planet Hollywood (in the space formally occupied by Trader Vic’s), the two-story, 15,000 square-foot Cabo Wabo Cantina has all the makings of a tourist favorite.

You’ve got your celebrity angle, with an ode to Hagar plastering the walls from the mall entrance. Add memorabilia for more ooh and ahh. If that’s not enough to make the Red Rocker’s fans go to their happy place, Hagar himself will periodically be taking the stage at the venue to rock out, including during the grand opening on December 4 (the soft opening will be in the next few weeks).

So, that means there’ll be a cover charge for Cabo Wabo Cantina, right? Wrong. Even for special appearances by Sammy and friends, it’s always free to party. “It’s going to be a very approachable, good value place,” says Cabo Wabo managing partner Corey Jenkins. In addition to live entertainment on select nights, a full menu of coastal Mexican dishes (with a few American favorites) will average around $10 per plate.

The Details

Cabo Wabo Cantina
3663 Las Vegas Blvd. South
(Inside Miracle Mile Shops)
866-0703

Cabo Wabo’s got retail space covered for souvenirs to send home to jealous friends and the daiquiri bar will delight with whimsical drink containers shaped like guitars or the Cabo Wabo lighthouse. Collect them all! Curious what’s going on at Cabo Wabo #1 in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico? A live feed of the action will run on flat screens around the venue. Oh, and who doesn’t love girls dancing on the three bars and serving frozen concoctions? Add to that a high tech climate-controlled patio overlooking the Strip and you’ve got the closest thing to a Cabo party this side of the border with doors that can be pushed back for an indoor/outdoor effect. “We keep the beach weather even in the dead of winter,” Jenkins says.

And, of course, there’s the man himself.

“Sammy loves coming to Vegas. He’s been trying to come here for a decade or more,” adds Jenkins, and the right opportunity and location finally presented itself. No word on whether or not David Lee Roth will try to open a competing venture nearby…
